Ryugu Dwarf Japanese Maple
Ryugu Dwarf Japanese maple is unlike any other maple we know of. Tiny leaves are clumped on candelabra-like branches. The leaves emerge pinkish with a touch of orange. As the leaves change to green, flecks of white and cream variegation add more interest. Fall color is red. Ryugu is perfectly suited for a decorative container or small stature garden area.
OH, I almost forgot! Ryugu translates from Japanese to mean “Dragon Palace Castle”. Cool!
Care and Planting tips for your Ryugu Dwarf maple:
Make sure you plant your Ryugu with good drainage. Proper drainage techniques include planting the tree in a raised bed, planting on a slope, and creating a planting mound 4 to 6 inches above the existing grade. Japanese Maples require moist, well drained soil. Amend the soil with organic material. We recommend adding an organic mulch over the planting area. Rhode Island Red is suited for sun and part sun conditions.
If planting in a container, avoid potting mixes with sphagnum moss. This sphagnum can dry out if not kept continuously kept moist. If sphagnum dries out, it actually resist water. Bark based tree planting mixes or high grade soil conditioners work better.
