Bihou Gold Bark Japanese maple:
Bihou Gold Bark is a relatively new introduction which features stunning yellow to orange bark color in Fall and Winter. Bihou is the Gold Bark counterpoint to the famous Coral Bark ‘Sango kaku’. This new tree opens the door to countless new garden design uses; imagine an up-lighted specimen size tree with this bark color as a focal point! Bihou Gold Bark is a vigorous grower, once established. We estimate the ultimate height to be 12 to 14 feet.
The bark color transitions from the green of summer to the brilliant winter colors of yellow and gold fairly early in Fall. Beautiful autumn leaf colors prevail. If planted in full sun, we have noticed the younger branches become tipped in orange and red, adding even more color to the landscape.
Care and Planting tips for your Bihou Gold Bark Japanese maple:
Make sure your Bihou Gold Bark Japanese maple is planted with good drainage. Examples of techniques for ensuring proper drainage include planting the tree in a raised bed, planting on a slope, and creating a planting mound 4 to 6 inches above the existing grade. Bihou Gold Bark Japanese maples require moist, well drained soil. Amending the soil with organic material and adding an organic mulch over the planting area is also recommended.
